YBQ Design Studios

This page explains all the terms and fabric that will help you navigate the creation of our unique designs and garments on our website. Please note colours may not match pictures because we use hand-made natural dyes. Read our wash care instructions to avoid garments bleeding dyes onto other clothes while washing. FABRIC

Susi

Susi is thin handloom multicolored striped or checkered cloth produced mainly in Sindh. The Design Studio's signature finish uses red colored Susi in our designs especially as fusing in our garments to give common colors a more vibrant look to them. To understand our products better we refer to our Susi's as Susi in Red and Susi in Black for red and black Susi respectively.

Makli

Our Makli block prints have a deep history tied to the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the Sindh province. The intricate craftsmanship, influenced by the area's architectural history, our version of Makli not only represents, but also furthers the continuity of Sindh’s diverse cultural influences and craftsmanship.
YBQ uses block designs in different patterns to create his unique looks. Our first Makli print, which we refer to as Makli I has traditional designs and motifs arranged in aesthetic designs. Our second block print design, Makli II has a new and different look with zigzag lines running across, bordered with traditional blocks.

Khaddar

Khadi or Khaddar refers to hand spun or handwoven fabric primarily made out of cotton. Khadi has deep roots dating back to the Indus Valley civilization period where Khaddar made its way across Europe because of its durable and breathable nature. An important adaptation to the regional climate and the indigenous fashion.

Chatapatti

It is colourful patchwork or a quilt-like different fabrics sewn together in triangles. Chatapatti features vibrant designs and patterns that used to make quilts, blankets and decorative items. At YBQ Design Studio's, we proudly use it in our fusing and headwear.
